Why Make It Wild?
Make It Wild began in 2010 with one family who wanted
to take action for nature in the face of the climate emergency.
What started small has grown through the support of thousands of individuals and
families who care deeply about the future of the UK’s wildlife. Together, they are
helping to restore woodlands, meadows and other vital habitats, creating places
where nature can recover and people can return, season after season.
Ways individuals and families can support UK nature
These are practical ways to give back to the land. Each one supports long-term habitat restoration and helps make the UK wilder, healthier and more resilient over time.

Tree Dedications with
Lasting Meaning
Planting a tree might feel like a small act, but it’s how wild woodlands begin. Each tree
dedication supports the careful creation of new UK woodland, planted and looked
after for the long term.
Many individuals and families choose to dedicate a tree to mark a life moment,
remember someone special, or simply do something positive for nature. Over time,
these individual actions come together to create thriving habitats for wildlife,
stronger ecosystems and places people can return to, year after year.
This is how change happens. One thoughtful choice at a time. One tree at a time.
Understanding your carbon impact
If carbon feels complicated, you’re not alone. You might be thinking about flights you’ve taken, miles you’ve driven, or the energy used to heat your home. Like most of us, you may already be making changes where you can, and finding other things harder to shift.
Carbon offsetting isn’t a substitute for reducing greenhouse gas emissions. But for the carbon that’s currently unavoidable, it can be a practical way to take responsibility and support nature recovery at the same time.
If you wish to proceed with our offsetting, you
can choose from our nature location reserve
locations across the UK, where we are creating
new woodlands. If you’d like to, you will be able
to arrange to visit and see the trees we’ve
planted.
Our Carbon Emissions Calculator is a simple place to start. It’s there to help you understand where you stand and what practical steps you might take next.
It’s clear, transparent and designed to be used without pressure or judgement.
A living place of care, remembrance and recovery
For many people, becoming part of nature’s recovery is tied to memory, loss or reflection.
We have created a special dedicated memorial woodland. Here the cremation remains of your loved one can be placed amongst the roots of a newly planted tree. You and your family can attend the planting and return whenever you want to visit the tree as it grows.
For many families, planting a memorial tree offers something gentle and lasting. A living place to return to. A way for new life to grow, rooted in care and meaning. At Make It Wild, each tree becomes part of a wider landscape being restored for wildlife and future generations.
Stories From the Wild
People talk about a moment when something shifts.
Standing among young trees. Hearing birdsong return.
Watching children explore without rushing.
Those moments are why this work matters.
Upcoming Events
Join us for hands-on conservation days, guided walks, talks and seasonal activities across our sites.
Slow down, reconnect with
the wild and feel revitalised
Being part of nature’s recovery isn’t only about
supporting from afar. It’s also about being there.
We host events and activities across our sites, from conservation days and guided
walks to talks and seasonal experiences. They’re a chance to get outdoors, learn more
about the land and spend time somewhere that feels alive.
